How do you refine your Drishti?
As we close out 2022, one of the questions I ask myself is, “how do I refine my drishti (vision)?” We talked about the drishti being a way of controlling your attention which allows for the stilling of the mind. To harness one’s dristi, allows for cultivation of insight and inner wisdom. So once you see it’s benefits, how do we refine it?
The practice of tratika, candle gazing is such a beautiful practice to harness and cultivate the drishti. In Ayurveda, we teach the practice by having one sit in a quiet space in a comfortable seated position. This can be in a chair or on a mediation cushion. Have a table in front of you and place a candle in line with your eyes, about a foot or two in front of you. Light the candle and watch the flame of the candle without blinking, if possible. You might get a little teary eyed, that’s ok. It’s nice to release some tears. Watch the flame dance and move. Notice the radiant color it emits. See how it’s tethered to the wick, but doesn’t lose it’s play and dancy feel. Sit for 5-10 minutes. This is a great practice to do in winter and through the holidays. Just a couple minutes of tratika to harness your drishti can be so calming and brings your inner light/wisdom into your day.
Sending much love for the final days of this year.
