Ahimsa for the World

Final week of working with the overarching theme of ahimsa in our practice together. This week we’ve been working with the idea of ahimsa, “not causing pain/injury,” for the world and greater community around us. I think in some ways it’s harder to practice ahimsa, when there is so much happening in the world that feels unjust and painful. Sometimes a natural reaction is to want to feel that pain and inflict pain as a counter. So how can we modulate in a way that we are not putting more of that energy into the world?

“Strictly speaking, no activity and no industry is possible without a certain amount of violence, no matter how little. Even the very process of living is impossible without a certain amount of violence. What we have to do is to minimize it to the greatest extent possible." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

How do we see the challenges in the world and not mirror that back, or FEEL like we HAVE to mirror that back as a rebuttal or response?

“Ahimsa is not mere negative non-injury. It is a positive cosmic love. It is the development of a mental attitude in which hatred is replaced by love. Ahimsa is true self sacrifice. Ahimsa is forgiveness. Ahimsa is Shaki (power). Ahimsa is strength.” ~ Sivananda

Let’s work on spreading more ahimsa into the world. Hope that resonates with you.
